why i hate the suburbs, 2018 (12m)
A failed artist returns to his former home town of Hamilton, Ontario, to finally confront his stored paintings and his friends who have been housing them for years–thus completing his transition from painter to filmmaker.
This autobiographical short film attempts to connect the practices of painting and documentary work, framed within a critical theory discussion. The result is a self-portrait of the artist that is fleeting, vulnerable and, perhaps, vindicating.
